About MS SCRAM - Helping Find A Cure

What is MS SCRAM?

MS SCRAM is an independent group comprised of volunteers dedicated to ending multiple sclerosis. It provides services at no cost to the National MS Society during fundraising events, including radio communications, route safety and other volunteer support. These services allow the MS Society to put more of their funds toward finding a cure for MS while providing safer, more enjoyable events for participants.

In what events does MS SCRAM participate?

MS SCRAM participates in the Minnesota Chapter of the National MS Society. Each year there are three bicycle tours in the MN Chapter:

What services does MS SCRAM provide?

We coordinate Support And Gear (SAG) vehicles, assist at intersections to ensure participant and volunteer safety and provide general event support needs for volunteers and participants. This support may include rest stop operations, supply truck communications and real-time tracking of participants and vehicles.

How many people volunteer with MS SCRAM?

Last year we had close to 100 volunteers who put in over 1500 hours of time! This year we need more volunteers. To volunteer with MS SCRAM, follow these easy steps.

What can I do to help?

We need volunteers to fill many positions, including:

Education · Equipment Setup & Teardown · Intersection & Route Safety · Net Control · Planning · Recruitment · Rest Stop Communications · SAG (Support And Gear) Van Driver / Communicator · Staff Shadow · Supply/Equipment Communications

There are many positions available, whether you hold an amateur radio license or not. We can even team you up with a licensed ham and you may get on the air using their license. Make it a family event!

What is Multiple Sclerosis?

Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a chronic, often disabling disease of the central nervous system that generally strikes people between the ages of 20 and 50. Symptoms can range from numbness in the limbs to paralysis or loss of vision. The progress, severity, and specific symptoms of MS in any one person cannot yet be predicted, but advances in research and treatments are giving hope to those affected by the disease.

What is the National MS Society?

The mission of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Minnesota Chapter, is to end the devastating effects of multiple sclerosis. They achieve their mission through delivery of programs and services to people with MS and their families and through support of research into the cause and cure of MS. MS Society activities are made possible through sponsorships and fund-raising campaigns such as the MS Bike Tours.
